4Will never go back to gas or electric
By Irishlawlass
My husband and I built a home in 2008 and we wanted a kitchen with some very nice appliances. This induction cooktop was on the list. I cook daily and we entertain often so we needed a reliable, powerful cooktop. This cooktop is so powerful that I basically had to relearn how to cook things because I was burning everything at first. The burner will heat from 1 to 9 in intensity. Unless boiling something, I never go above 7. Just like gas, when you turn the burner off, the heat stops almost immediately. When you lift a pan off the stove the control for that burner will blink for about five seconds and then shut itself off because it's no longer in contact with reactive cookware. This is a great function. If you want the burner back on, it's instantly heated again so it's not a big deal if it turns off. The best thing about this cooktop is the way it cleans up. I had an electric stove before with the smooth cooktop and it looked HORRIBLE -- stained, scuffed etc. I was worried about the smooth top on the induction cooktops so I did exhaustive research before buying one. I learned that with induction, the only part of the burner that heats is the part directly in contact with the pan itself. So if something boils over or splatters, it's falling onto a cool surface -- not baking onto the stove top. I have used this cooktop daily for years now and have certainly had things splattering and boiling over. Some days, the mess sat for hours before it got cleaned up. Nevertheless, it ALWAYS cleans up beautifully and looks BRAND NEW every time. My husband and I just marvel at the way it looks brand new no matter how much abuse it takes. It's super easy to clean as well. It comes with a special scratchy pad and ceramic top cleaner which works wonderfully but I can also use Clorox Green Works or cleaning wipes or a paper towel and water (pretty much anything) to clean it for everyday situations. We had only two problems with this unit: 1) The first one did not work and had to be returned but this could have been due to workers damaging it while building our house and 2)the second one's timer function and lock function did not work. I didn't send the second one back because I quickly realized I would never use those two functions. I don't often time stuff I'm cooking on the cooktop but if I have to, I have a little kitchen timer I can use and prefer that because I can take it with me to another part of the house if need be. As for the lock function, I don't leave cookware on the cooktop when not in use. The burners can be turned on if my cat walks across the buttons (which I'm sorry to say she has done a time or two) or when you wipe over the controls, but they won't heat up unless there's a magnetic pot on the burner. They will just shut off after five seconds or so when it does not sense reactive cookware on the burner. So for me, it wasn't a deal breaker that those functions didn't work. I highly recommend this unit for daily cooking. It has been used heavily for three years now and performs beautifully. One warning: the installer told me to make sure nobody with a pacemaker stands close to the unit while it's cooking. I don't know if he knew what he was talking about but if this could be an issue for you, I'd look into it. Overall, this is a VERY nice cooktop and it's 90% efficient so it's a huge energy saver and friend to the environment. You won't be sorry!

5GE Induction Cooktop is absolutely Fantastic!!!
By Kathy B. Mclester
GE Profile PHP960DMBB 36" Induction Cooktop with 5 Induction Elements, Electronic Touch Controls, 19 Control Settings and Pan Presence & Pan Size Sensor: BlackI love my cooktop already. I have done spaghetti, cooked filling for a cherry pie and done some things in my new Fagor stainless pressure cooker. It is so fast, sensitive and accurate. I love the feature that turns off the burner when you remove the pan. I also love having no knobs to clean around. I am a little scared with the glass top and the danger of scratching it, but so far, so good. I had the old coil type burners before and am not used to this type surface. It is beautiful too. Sleak and shiny. I would highly recommend this product with my experiences so far. I have had it about 3 weeks and love it. It saves energy and cooks so fast.

5It is perfect ...
By JustaDumbBlonde
You could not get this stove away from me if you were armed with a bazooka. It is beautiful and makes cooking a joy! Powerful enough to boil 2 gallons of cold water in 6 minutes, yet you can simmer perfectly, or even just keep something warm. You will need a 50 amp breaker, and for that you need 6 gauge romex ... 8 gauge if you can't possibly do 6. Look online and you will find it much cheaper than a home center, if you're doing the installation yourself as I did. Did I mention that this cooktop is POWERFUL?I was replacing a 35 year old GE ceramic cooktop, and I figured if that one could last that long, I was safe going with GE once again. It was really a bonus that this GE unit was the best looking of the 5 element, 36" models available, regardless of brand. My old cooktop had the stainless steel rim around it, and I elected to go with the totally black model ... so glad that I did. There is no place for grease and grime to collect. This unit dropped right into the old cutout with one little modification. We did have to add a 1x1" piece across the back because the footprint of this was actually a bit smaller than the old 4 burner we were replacing. This cooktop sits only 1/4" tall when installed. It is sleek and gorgeous! I actually didn't notice from the GE photos that this unit has a curved front. Look closely and you'll see it, which only adds to the beauty.I had lots of stainless steel cookware, Revere Ware and Farberware, that were stamped 18/10, but none of them would activate the elements. Through Amazon, I purchased Cuisinart MCP-12 MultiClad Pro Stainless Steel 12-Piece Cookware Set, and several of the multiclad pieces that match, all the way up to the 12-quart stock pot. What absolutely awesome cookware!!! Treat yourself ... this stuff is better than All Clad, and it costs about 20% as much as All Clad. Cleaned with Bar Keepers Friend® Cleanser & Polish: 12 OZ, it looks new every time you're finished. Does very nicely in the dishwasher too, if you use a detergent with phosphates.UPDATE #1 - After 30 days of using this cooktop, I'd give it 10 stars if Amazon would let me. I cook at least 1 meal every day, and I prepare and can all types of fruit and vegetables. I'm in jelly and preserves season right now, and have been using the cooktop for many hours a day. Holy smokes! I can now double and triple the batches on my jellies, which is a total no-no on your average cooktop. This model brings to a boil and holds a boil so well that I'm actually making larger recipes in less time. My kitchen used to be so hot and miserable when I was canning, but no more!!! This cooktop does not put heat into the room at all!I purchased New Professional Commercial Grade 20 QT (Quart) Heavy Gauge Stainless Steel Stock Pot, 3-Ply Clad Base, Induction Ready, With Lid Cover NSF Certified Item to use as my water bath canner, and it works fabulously. The aluminum flat rack from my old Mirro pressure cooker/canner just fits in the bottom of this pot, and the pot is plenty tall enough to cover quart jars in more than the requisite depth of water. It is not quite tall enough to do half-gallon mason jars. The diameter of the pot exactly matches the large center element of the cooktop.
